Bleed, trim and safe zone
- Bleed size — 3.75" x 2.25": extend background colors and images to this edge so no white slivers appear after cutting.
- Trim size — 3.5" x 2": the finished card.
- Safe zone — 3.25" x 1.75": keep all text, logos and anything you cannot lose inside this area.
- Rounded corners: a 0.125" or 0.25" corner radius eats into the safe zone at the corners — pull artwork in a little further.
File setup checklist
- Document at bleed size, 300 DPI, CMYK color.
- Fonts embedded or converted to outlines.
- Rich black for large solids (C60 M40 Y40 K100), plain K100 for small text.
- Two pages or two files for double-sided — front first.

Which size should you pick?
Stay at 3.5" x 2" if the card needs to fit every wallet, card holder and Rolodex on earth — it is also the cheapest to print. Choose credit-card size for plastic and PVC cards that live in a wallet slot. Go square or slim when standing out is worth the die-cut charge, and folded when you need room for a menu, price list or appointment schedule on the inside.

What is the standard business card size?
In the United States and Canada the standard business card is 3.5" x 2" (88.9 mm x 50.8 mm). In Europe the common size is 85 x 55 mm, and in most of Asia and Australia it is 90 x 55 mm.
What size should I set up a business card file at?
Build the document at 3.75" x 2.25" — that is the 3.5" x 2" trim plus 0.125" bleed on all four sides. Keep text and logos at least 0.125" inside the trim line so nothing gets cut off.
What is the business card size in pixels?
At 300 DPI a 3.5" x 2" card is 1050 x 600 pixels at trim, or 1125 x 675 pixels with bleed. Never design a print card at 72 DPI — a 72 DPI file prints blurry.
What size is a business card in mm?
The US card is 88.9 x 50.8 mm. The European standard is 85 x 55 mm, the same footprint as a credit card, and the Japanese meishi is 91 x 55 mm.
Do plastic and PVC cards use the same size?
Plastic and PVC cards print at the credit-card footprint of 3.375" x 2.125" (85.6 x 54 mm) or at the standard 3.5" x 2", depending on the product. Credit-card size is what fits a wallet slot and what ID card printers feed.
Can I print a square or slim business card?
Yes. Square cards are typically 2.5" x 2.5" or 2.0" x 2.0", and slim cards are 3.5" x 1.5" or 3.5" x 1.75". Both are die-cut, so they cost a little more than a standard rectangle but are far more memorable.
How thick should a business card be?
