Flyer Sizes: Standard Dimensions, Paper & Print Specs

Every common flyer size with the job it does best, the paper weights we print on, and live per-flyer prices from our own run sizes.

Quick answer

The standard flyer is 8.5" x 11". Half sheets at 5.5" x 8.5" and handbills at 4" x 6" cost far less per piece and are easier to hand out; 11" x 17" is the poster-scale option for windows and bulletin boards.

Paper weight and finish

  • 100 lb gloss text: the default flyer stock — vivid photos, low cost, folds cleanly.
  • 80 lb gloss text: lightest option; best for very high volume drops.
  • 100 lb gloss cover: card-weight; use for leave-behinds, table tents and premium offers.
  • 70 lb uncoated: matte, easy to write on — good for forms, sign-up sheets and coupons.
  • Matte vs gloss: gloss pops with photography, matte reads better with dense text.

Bleed and safe area

  1. Add 0.125" bleed on all four sides — an 8.5" x 11" flyer becomes an 8.75" x 11.25" document.
  2. Keep text and logos 0.25" inside the trim.
  3. Supply 300 DPI CMYK artwork as a press-ready PDF, fonts embedded or outlined.
  4. Folding? Tell us the fold (half, tri-fold, z-fold) so we can set panel widths — folded panels are not equal thirds.
  5. Mailing? Leave the address block clear on the back and add the indicia — see postcard sizes for the USPS brackets.

Which size should you pick?

Handing flyers out on a sidewalk or slipping them under doors? Use 5.5" x 8.5" or 4" x 6" — you can print twice as many for the same money. Selling something that needs photos, a menu or a floor plan? Use 8.5" x 11". Posting to a window or a community board where you compete for attention? 11" x 17" wins.

FAQ

What is the standard flyer size?

8.5" x 11" (US Letter) is the standard flyer size in the United States. 5.5" x 8.5" (half sheet) is the next most common, and 4" x 6" is the standard handout or mailer size.

What size flyer is best for handouts?

Half sheets at 5.5" x 8.5" and 4" x 6" handbills are the easiest to hand out and the cheapest per piece, because two or four print on one parent sheet. Save 8.5" x 11" for pieces that need photos, floor plans, menus or long copy.

What size flyer can I mail?

An 8.5" x 11" flyer mails as a flat, which is the standard EDDM piece. Anything 6.125" x 11.5" or smaller mails at the First-Class letter price, and pieces 4.25" x 6" or smaller can mail at the postcard rate. See our postcard sizes guide for the exact USPS brackets.

What is the flyer size in mm and pixels?

8.5" x 11" is 215.9 x 279.4 mm, or 2550 x 3300 pixels at 300 DPI. A4 is 210 x 297 mm (2480 x 3508 px at 300 DPI) and A5 is 148 x 210 mm.

What paper weight should a flyer be?

100 lb gloss text is the standard flyer stock — bright, affordable, good for photos. 100 lb gloss cover is roughly card weight and is the right choice for leave-behinds, table tents and premium offers. Uncoated 70 lb text is best when people need to write on it.

How much bleed does a flyer need?

Add 0.125" of bleed on all four sides and keep text 0.25" inside the trim line. For an 8.5" x 11" flyer that means a 8.75" x 11.25" document with a 8" x 10.5" safe area.

Should a flyer print single or double sided?

Double-sided costs only a little more and roughly doubles the space you have to sell. Print single-sided when the flyer will be posted to a wall or window, double-sided for anything handed to a person or mailed.
