Door hanger questions
What size is a standard door hanger?
4.25" x 11" is the standard and the size most people mean by "door hanger" — it cuts four to a sheet, so it is the cheapest per piece. 3.5" x 8.5" is the common compact size for tighter budgets and smaller drops.
How big is the hole?
A 1.25" die-cut round hole set about 0.5" down from the top, with a slit running up to the top edge so the hanger slips over a knob or lever. Keep important artwork at least 0.25" clear of the hole and the slit.
What paper are door hangers printed on?
16pt cardstock is the standard — stiff enough to push over a knob without buckling and to survive a windy porch. Heavier 18pt and plastic stock are available for campaigns that hang for weeks or in wet weather.
Gloss or matte?
UV gloss gives the strongest color and sheds light rain, which is why most contractor and service campaigns use it. Matte or dull coating is the pick when the crew writes an appointment time, estimate or name on the hanger by hand.
Should I print both sides?
Usually yes. The hanger turns freely on a knob, so whichever side faces out is up to chance. A one-sided piece gives up half its impressions; the second side costs far less than doubling the print run.

How many door hangers should I order?
Most local service campaigns order 500 to 2,500 for a neighborhood canvass. The price per piece falls sharply with volume, so if you plan to repeat the drop it is usually cheaper to print the full campaign at once.
Can I mail door hangers?
Door hangers are made for hand delivery, not mail. If you want the same message delivered by the post office to every address on a route, EDDM postcards are the cheaper and simpler option.
