How white ink works
On transparent plastic, ink is semi-translucent. Printing dark navy type on clear PVC gives you navy that changes shade depending on whatever is behind the card. A white underprint solves this: we lay down opaque white only where your logo and text sit, then print color on top. Everything you leave off the white layer stays see-through.
Design for it deliberately. The most effective transparent cards keep 40–60% of the surface completely empty so the transparency reads as a feature rather than a printing problem.
Artwork setup checklist
- Document size 3.75" x 2.25" for a 3.5" x 2" card (0.125" bleed all sides).
- Keep text and logos 0.125" inside the trim line.
- 300 DPI, CMYK, press-ready PDF with fonts outlined or embedded.
- Put white-ink areas on a separate spot-color layer named White, set to overprint.
- Specify rounded corners (1/8" radius is standard) or square corners in your order notes.
