How much does EDDM cost?
Every Door Direct Mail has two costs: USPS postage and printing. Here is the current postage rate, live printing prices by run size, and what a real campaign adds up to.
Quick answer
EDDM Retail postage is $0.260 per piece for flats up to 3.3 oz (USPS Notice 123, effective July 12, 2026). Add printing and most postcard campaigns land between 35¢ and 45¢ per piece all-in. There is no mailing list to buy and no permit fee for EDDM Retail.
Printing cost by run size
These prices come straight from our live catalog, so they are current as you read them. "From" prices are the lowest-cost size and stock combination at that quantity — larger sizes and heavier stocks cost more.

A worked example: 5,000 pieces
| Line item | Rate | Total |
|---|---|---|
| USPS EDDM Retail postage | $0.260 / piece | $1,300.00 |
| Printing (postcards, quoted at your size and stock) | quoted per run | request a quote |
| Mailing list | not required | $0.00 |
| Permit / presort fee (EDDM Retail) | none | $0.00 |
| Shipping of printed pieces (orders over $75) | free economy | $0.00 |
Postage is paid to USPS when you drop the mailing, not to us. Note the EDDM Retail limit of 5,000 pieces per ZIP code per day — split larger campaigns across days or move to the permit-based BMEU option.
What drives the price up or down
- Piece size. Postage is flat per piece regardless of size, so a bigger 8.5" x 11" piece only costs more in printing — often the cheapest way to buy attention.
- Stock and coating. 100# gloss cover is the value option; 14 pt and 16 pt coated stocks feel sturdier and cost more per piece.
- Run size. Per-piece printing drops sharply between 500 and 5,000 pieces. Postage does not move.
- Route selection. Choosing residential-only routes trims waste; choosing whole ZIP codes maximizes reach.
EDDM vs a targeted list
EDDM wins on cost per piece because you skip list rental and addressing. A targeted list wins when your customer is a narrow slice of a neighborhood. We break the tradeoff down in EDDM vs targeted direct mail.
FAQ
How much does EDDM cost per piece?
Budget the USPS EDDM Retail postage rate of $0.260 per piece plus your printing cost. On a typical 5,000-piece postcard mailing that works out to roughly 35 to 45 cents per piece all-in, depending on size and stock.
How much is EDDM postage?
EDDM Retail postage is $0.260 per piece for flats up to 3.3 oz, per the USPS Notice 123 price list. There is no annual presort or permit fee for EDDM Retail, and there is no mailing list to buy.
Is there a minimum or maximum for EDDM?
EDDM Retail has no minimum, but you must mail to every address on a selected carrier route, and there is a 5,000-piece-per-day, per-ZIP-code limit for EDDM Retail. Larger volumes move to EDDM BMEU pricing, which requires a permit.
What size should an EDDM piece be?
The piece must qualify as a flat: larger than 6.125" x 11.5" or taller than 0.25", and no larger than 12" x 15". A 6.5" x 9" or 8.5" x 11" postcard is the usual choice.
Do I need a mailing list for EDDM?
No. That is the main saving. EDDM delivers to every address on the carrier routes you choose, so you skip list rental and address printing entirely.
What is not included in the per-piece price?
Design work if you need it, bundling and paperwork prep, and delivery of the bundles to the post office. We handle bundling, facing slips and PS Form 3587 for mailings we print — ask for a quote with your route selection.
